Krugle, Inc., which is a code search engine for developers, has announced it will supply search functionality for the Yahoo! Developer Network.
The Yahoo Developer Network is a centralized resource for the developer community that offers open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Web Services that make it easy to extend and build on Yahoo’s products and services.
The Yahoo! Developer Network hosts the publicly-available code and documentation for Yahoo!-owned properties, and provides tutorials, code samples, and other resources for developers. The Yahoo! Developer Network can now take advantage of Krugle’s code search engine and interface to allow developers working with Yahoo! APIs and data to find, save, and share code written in six languages: ActionScript, JavaScript, .NET, PHP, Python, and Ruby.
It will also provide users with contextual information as they browse the code, such as associated documentation and dependencies, bug reports, commentary, and user-tagged code and search results that are easily shared among colleagues.
“One of the reasons for Yahoo!’s success has been the company’s strong belief in opening up its products for third party developers,” said Steve Larsen, CEO of Krugle. “By publishing open APIs and helpful documentation, they create an active and engaged community and encourage developers to create applications which utilize Yahoo!’s technology in new and innovative ways. With this partnership, Krugle will make it easier than ever to leverage the true potential of Yahoo!’s open APIs and Web Services.”

Yahoo! still strong even they have a lot of competitor.
It really is interesting to see the direction Yahoo is going – they’re not competing on core search competencies any more, they’re going more and more towards specialised searching…if that makes sense.
This is a good move for Yahoo.. they have to widen their net and they may reap the benefits of this project in a couple of years.
Yahoo is great, but always the INTERFACE of the site makes me avoid using it!!!
Great move, Yahoo!, I just believe they may be a little too late, for their whole idea of community development has been in action via Google for more than a couple of years.
I think the best way to utilize the idea of development networks is by promoting the development networks via sites such as Sourceforge.net and also by paying charity to the Mozilla Foundation for “development”. This is Google’s strategy and I feel as though companies like Yahoo must connect the strategies of their closest competitors in order to stay ahead of the game and at least balance in a way with Google — Love this post too, there should just be more of a community and building to this post in order to ensure large conversations. Keep up the convo =o)
