I agree 100%. An experience SEO knows whether an SEO knows what they are talking about or not just from 5 minutes of talking 2 them. The problem is that most companies have no idea and are susceptible to posers when hiring in-house or when hiring an agency.

I think any company hiring an in-houser should pay an experienced SEO to pre-screen any hires.

Training in-house staff that aren’t specifically assigned the role of SEO is key as Dustin described. Whenever SEO “clicks” with an editor you suddenly have someone doing SEO for you. Multiply that by 10 or 20 and you end up building a huge SEO team which is an absolute must to continually move a content-rich site like AllRecipes.
