I’ve noticed that the Search Engine Journal listings in Google have been showing Sitelinks for a good month or so now, but noticed that those site links are not the exact ones I’d like to see listed in the Google index when people search for “search engine journal“, my name or other terms which serve the Search Engine Journal homepage in Google results.
Here are the Sitelinks for SEJ as served in Google results:

And here is the message Google is giving me when I try to view my Sitelinks in Google Webmaster Central Tools:
Google has not generated any sitelinks for your site. Sitelinks are completely automated, and we show them only if we think they’ll be useful to the user. If your site’s structure doesn’t allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or we don’t think that the sitelinks are relevant to the user’s query, we won’t show them. However, we are always working to improve how we find and display sitelinks.
Hmmm… looks like I’m not the only one with jet lag.

Yea, GWT is rarely in sink with what we see. Makes you wonder about what linkage data and other data they are giving us.

Yeah i’ve seen that over the last week or so. They have added new functionality “iGoogle Gadgets” which may have affected this for some unknown reason

I’ve noticed the sitelinks start to come up for all sites now if you search for the exact site title or domain. This still doesn’t work for smaller sites if you search for a competitive term and the site comes up at the top of the SERP.

Yeah, I noticed this a little while back when I 1st got sitelinks for my site. It is funny because my friend has a link showing up for a lesbian worms post that he did and he can’t get rid of it:

You aren’t alone. I got sitelinks for months in my Webmaster tool, never displayed below my entries, and now I don’t get it anymore.
Some update in progress? I don’t know. My web site stands always on top, so I don’t take care of sitelinks as additional entry point … not at the moment.

i think they do allow u to remove the ones u do not want. i remember seeing that option the last time i checked. they do show sitelinks for a lot more sites nowadays.

True Sushubh, they are showing Sitelinks for more and more sites, but not allowing Google Webmaster Tools users the ability to edit them, which they should allow for all validated users.

I think with every software there will be glitches. Yes sometimes google does not get it right but overall they do a good job
Perhaps resubmitting your sitemap may help.
I use google webmaster tools only as a guide.
The information you need out there is what people have access to ie the google index

Yes, Google Site Links confuses me a lot. I got site links for the Keyword “Independent Living Technologies”. But it just landed for one day and it just disappeared from the very next day….

I’m seeing the self-same thing for two of my clients.
I saw this the middle of last week and thought it was odd since they’d only just come through (15th of December last year) for those two websites…

The issue seems to be fixed now, at least for my sites with sitelinks

Loren their is NOWAY Google is going to allow us to edit Sitelinks.
Loren Baker, Editor on Mar 3, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Yeah, but we can edit them by blocking the ones we don’t want listed, like “Previous Entries”
Jaan Kanellis on Mar 3, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Sure, I know what you mean.

Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering why links weren’t showing when I know I have quite a few. :-?

I haven’t managed to gain sitelinks yet. Is three a minimum number of pages for a website before Google will consider them? My external link count hasn’t been updated for some time either.
Web Agency Chieti on Jun 16, 2008 at 12:29 am
@Christmas Hampers
The minimum links, actually, have been set up to 4. About their presence, mostly it depends by the real quality of your web site.
