Google Upgrading Orkut Photo Albums

Brazilians and Orkut loyalists rejoice (Orkut users are majority Brazilian), it looks like Google is going to be upgrading the outdated Orkut photos with something more Picasa oriented; perhaps just in time for Orkut users to upload their Feliz Páscoa (Easter) photos.

Seems that Google has added a new entry to their robots.txt file; Disallow : orkut/albums.

Garret Rogers has the scoop;

When Google adds something to this file, it almost always means something is coming. The new addition makes me think something will happen with “orkut albums”.

I am guessing it will be some sort of Picasa integration if user suggestions have had any influence on an update.

    I see more conspicuous Indian faces in the new homepage. And there is a reason to it too. There is a new leash of Indian networking websites that are trying to take on orkut (which is incidentally the most popular networking site in India) and also partly getting successful because they are Indian ones…

    The new homepage, as I see it, is to counter this strategy…
