I see a lot of layoffs in many industries so I guess it is not surprising the even Google is not immune. As advertising turns more toward the internet I think that when a downturn comes the internet advertising sector will also be affected.

Its very sad to here, maybe they will remove the overlaps increase the working areas switch the people to the ones that work well. But at least they will give each person time to try and find another position at Google or give them outplacement support, and provide severance packages for those who leave the company.

It is always unfortunate when cutbacks are made. I was disappointed to see Google was pulling out of Search Engine Strategies London – they were not present at the exhibition. These conferences really need sponsors, and with a 90%+ market share in Europe I think Google should support an event like SES London.
