A week after launching its Online Security Blog with a  post on malware, Google steps up its drive  to promote internet safety and security further by acquiring Green Border, a web security startup. Established in 2001, GreenBorder specializes on developing security software that uses web virtualization tools which creates  virtual online sessions that can be discarded when the online session is finished. This virtual session protects users from malwares that attack their system when surfing the web.

Google’s Online Security Blog explains virtual machines as:

Virtual machines are often used by security researchers to sandbox malware samples for analysis, or to protect a machine from a potentially hazardous activity. The theory is that any security threat or malicious behaviour will be restricted to the virtual environment which can be discarded and then restored to pristine condition after use.

There is no word yet as to how Google intends to use GreenBorder’s security software on various Google products. Nonetheless, its a good effort on Google to enhance web security which would definitely be of benefit to users.
