Google Print Resumes Tomorrow

Despite lawsuits from both authors and publishers alike over questionable copyright violation tactics, Google will be googling full speed ahead start tomorrow with the Google Print project. Google Print hopes to digitize the world’s book collection and offer the index online.

Google Print has run into some roadblocks with copyright law and the plans to scan and index copyrighted material if those book’s publishers or authors have not told Google not to do so. Google stopped the Google Print initiative in September, offering book rights owners the window of time to opt-out of the service.

The presses, however, are inked up and ready to start again tomorrow as Google Print’s deadline ends on November 1st. Google feels that they have the legal right under the fair use clause of the Copyright Act to go ahead with the digitization program. The Association of American Publishers and Authors’ Guild both disagree and have filed separate law suits against Google.
