Google Penalized Sites and Linking PageRank
Earlier in the week Barry Schwartz from Search Engine Roundtable answered a reader question asking whether sites which have been penalized by Google pass PageRank to sites that they link to, and is the value of such PageRank dampened. Barry answers by first reiterating that PageRank itself is no longer as important in all around search ranking as it once was and that publishers should look at other aspects of sites they wish to partner with for a link.
Barry also tells the reader how to see a page has been penalized by Google; “If you do want to use PR as an example, and the site has a PR0, that may tell you the site is penalized. Obviously, you should verify if the site is indexed in the search engines before jumping to any conclusions.”
And what about the link losing its value of a site is penalized? Barry answers “If the site penalized, why would you want it to pass anything to you? If I was sick, like I was last week, would you want me to touch you?”
Nuff said Barry.
After reading this post it makes me wonder how many penalized sites may link to my own. If there only was a tool out there which would look at the number of sites which link to you, and then identify those which are a PageRank 0, so I could then ask those sites to erase the link. Anything out there like this?

But, I didn’t really mean a penalized site will make your site sick. But if all your links are sick, the chances you’ll catch the disease is higher. Natural links.
Pages showing a white or gray bar may be just new, moved or renamed, not yet crawled, have a PR between zero and one… Also the 3-4 times per year updated toolbar PR isn’t accurate, especially not for some dynamic pages. That is, toolbar PR is definitely *not* a suitable indicator for penalized pages.
Google won’t penalize you if a PR0 site links to you. It’s not under your control, so no penalty. But they will penalize if you link TO a bad site. Barry’s idea for a tool is good: the tool should show what you link TO, and warn you if you are pointing to bad sites.
How are we supposed to know that the site is banned??? Do we have to search google everytime before linking a site??? Are we linking the site for it’s content or for Google please could someone explain this to me ???
Jeba
If ONLY penalized sites link to you, or if you ONLY link to penalized sites, that would catch Google’s attention. But if there’s a good mix of incoming and outgoing links, a few bad apples won’t ruin your ranking.
if you google your URL Google prings up a page that shows links to their cache of your site, pages which link to your site, are similar to your site, from your site, and contain your URL
Penalize sites link to your site doesnt effects you
but u have that penalize sites under your website pages then it might be hurt your website..
Google penalized my blog (blew my PR 4 to 2, then after 3 days, to zero). Google should provide explanations since I got good contents.
I realized now, however, that I don’t blog for Google. Otherwise, I’ll be in severe depression to see a PR0 considering all the hard work I did for my blog.
