Google seems to have updated its backlink tracking tool in the Google Webmaster Tools suite according to a conversation going on in DigitalPoint forums. Some members are reporting increases of backlinks tracked by Google, while others are saying that Google has dropped some of their historical backlinks from its tracking.
Other webmasters are reporting that Google Webmaster Tools has changed their PageRanks from PageRank 7 to PageRank 6 on internal Webmaster Tools reporting. The webmaster community has been patiently waiting for a Google PageRank update for some time, it could be on the way this weekend.
In some sites where I link dropped from PR 7 to PR 6! Maybe big Google is in the process of PR update. My blog is showing PR 4 then goes back to PR 1. Hoping that this next update give positive results to my sites!
This is interesting. I paid for links from one of the blog networks here a couple of months ago. Every link from that network has been dropped from Webmaster Tools for my site. All other backlinks still show up, and links from that network still show in a link: query on Yahoo.
I just lost over 600 backlinks, 1500 is now 876 backlinks, I have not done anything to it, my other sites seem ok though, I have seen this happen before, only temporary though.

Mike, granted, PageRank has become an outdated and irrelevant metric of site value and findability, but for some reason, the possibility of an update still has many webmasters feeling giddy.
The pretty little green bar still adds reputation and credibility, although a misunderstood measurement of so, to many new sites and projects across the web, even outside of the SEO world, so what Google reports to web users, is still important.
I know many non-SEOr’s (family members and friends) who believe that PageRank is a Google trust factor, so the higher the number of the site, the better it is… especially when they are shopping online… so there is some importance to an update besides for SEO and (outdated) site linking purposes.
Besides, it’s fun to see the bar slide from time to time :)

There has been many sites with updated PR-all those sites are old and got minus (-) 1 PR. It seems a trend that Google is lowering PR of every site by one point.
IMO- G is trying to restore the sanctity of PR by raising the standard bar to achieve PR.
I have only one sit updated- my PR4 directory pagerankluck.com is down to PR3 from PR4. But the weird thing is – only its home-page got updated. All its categories are still as they were- PR4/3/2 and no new pages have been assigned PR.
PR update! Many webmasters, bloggers, web designers are waiting for this, especially the new site/blog owners. I hope this time it really happens. Thanks for the update. Will have to wait and watch.

We’ve observed one more scenario related to the importance of PageRank:
If you have a web directory that is not showing PR, people are generally reluctant to submit, even for free. When PR starts showing, submissions go through the roof.
Yes PR in directories is very important, when You think about pay for link in directory PR is much more important…
Since yesterday – I have been noticing some changes on innerpages of some high PR directory which has not lost homepage PR.
My PR6 director’s innerpage was PR6- now its PR4. There are many more directories which had wholesale changes on inner-page PRs.
I am not sure if this is real PR update or just canonicalization.
I checked over a hundred data centers (including the toolbar :) and am not seeing any changes in PR for either home pages or internal pages of sites we manage.
I can confirm Google has updated the number of links they are reporting in Webmaster Tools which they have been doing on a regular (monthly) basis.
Got a lot info that my others friends site’s have been decreased PageRank value, not found any site yet that have higher PageRank than before.
No changes in my sites yet!

Looking foward to the update! Just went live on my website last week and have been scrambling to build links ever since. Curious to see what is shows for me thus far. Still have a few more days in the mean time to build more links!

my website rank is not updated in last 7 months, it remains at 2 constant. Do you think that Google oversees some domain names when it updates website ranks?
There is no way imo to know if google has updated a website, one good (paid) backlink of a pr 6 website doesn’t garantee a better pagerank (and a better placement)
I have seen changes in the sites that linked to me most have gone up good sign but mine has gone nowhere. The only think that is strange is that some pages from my home page see the home page as a google link. Which i have been told means that it is worth over 4 so thats a good sign

For whatever reason, my blogs page rank has gone from a 0 to a 4. I have had multiple people check out my domain and they have confirmed the number. Why the jump is so big I have no idea.
I was surprise to see Onlygowns.com site PR. Before it was PR 4. After the Google update it went down straight to PR 3. Then after a week it again went down to PR 2.

Strange, on the almost all pages the number of the backlinks has increased hugely but the PR on the many pages actually dropped for the 1. Also, I can notice change on the many pages only for the front page PR and the rest seems to be like it was before.
You get heavily slashed back if you pay bloggers to link to your page, I’ve seen it happen with fellow webmasters buying links and popping up on too many blogs all at once.., instead of a heavy climb you get modded off PR
I noticed that Google has changed backlink policy and now we can see the large number of backlinks. Getting higher PR is getting more and more complicated because Google can trace it more easily.
Google should go back to Earth.
