Firstly I think this whole "big innovation" of Knol is mostly about displaying keyword related advertisement. The biggest problem with Wikipedia for Google, that they dont put ads on their pages (actually I dont know why they could not do that, and in the long run, I think it could help them a lot). Google wants this to own this moneymaking opportunity.
Secondly, Know will be the next step, after displayin YouTube results to make Google results more and more biased. Please, tell me, why a YouTube video is more relevant to a search than any other video on a different video sharing service... I bet Knol results will be doing a wonderful job on Google ranking. :o)

I feel it is extremely dangerous for the Internet community that Google is moving toward to a more of content provider role...

Interesting point would be to see if Google does come to own the content eventually. It has been their strategy to never own any content as such (a difference from Yahoo). Also, owning the content could bias the rankings.

As an active member of different wiki sites I am excited about the possibilities of Knol.

I have this hunch that the negative popular opinion about knol may impede the launch.

I already have a plan for my Knol!
