Google Improves Code Search

Aleksander Fedorynski, Google Software Engineer announces several improvements on Google Search Code, a tool for locating publicly available source code. These improvements are:

  • crawling of individual code files and individual code snippets from webpages – previously only complete archives and repositories were indexed, thus expanding search coverage for source code,
  • class and function definitions are now closer to the top of searches for improved ranking,
  • code search is now available in other domains outside of U.S. – Poland, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, and Spain, to name a few.
