Google Domains Foreshadow an Archive Search?
Will Google be launching their own version of the Archive.org Wayback Machine? Some recent domain name purchases have ZDNet’s Garett Rogers following his gut and predicting that such a service (perhaps even a paid for professional service?) may be right around the corner.
If my gut instinct is correct, it won’t be long before Google launches a similar service that lets us peer into the history of the web.
How much information does Google remember about page changes though? We know they keep at least one cached copy, but is it possible that every time the cache is updated, the old version is filed away somewhere safe?
And which domain names did Google purchase yesterday which lead to such accusations by ZDNet’s resident Google Blogger? Here’s a list:
