I wouldn't use google DS, especially not for business purpose because of data security. in our company, we use lookeen for searching outlook and desktop likewise. lookeen is incredible fast, accurate and offers a great handling! network search with shared index, microsoft exchange servers...that's all no problem for lookeen.

scusi-- i have google toolbar, zone alarm at high settings, and am trying that wonderous program, google desktop search. every time i start win xp, and several times a day, that cute little program that would never spy, must access the internet. it hides in generic host, internet explorer, or any other outgoing program. and if i deny access, that kills the host's program (that i want) access to the internet. so that just means if i ever want to access the internet or my email, i must allow google desktop an unrestricted ride. it's up to one of you to read the dll, and see. if google's intentions are good, i'm privileged to die by friendly fire.......

While waiting for full Firefox support, I went ahead and created a GDS search plugin for FF which allows you to search your desktop via the search bar built into Firefox. By default it displays 100 results per page, but this can be changed easily. Check it out if you're interested.

Google Desktop rocks. Wonder if it will only index local storage? Can you point it at a network drive? Doesn't seem to be able to at least on the surface.
