Google Base SafeSearch Was On the Fritz

In a follow up to the commotion centered around Google Base serving porn results earlier in the week, Philipp Lenssen writes that Google Base SafeSearch was actually broken.

“Keywords like “xxx” or “porn”, which recently triggered a load of adult content – some of it even hosted directly on Google’s server – now returns family-friendly result again (like the movie “Triple X” or a “Web Protection Blocker”).”

Philipp’s blog, Google Blogoscoped, cites a German publication Spiegel’s report that Google admitted that its Google Base SafeSearch filter was temporarily broken. Hence the priceless quote from the Fark link which featured this story; “Porn industry is on Google Base like a fat kid on a pastry.”
