While this shows at least an effort to fill in a hole that has existed with Flash and SEO, designers should realize that Flash still has a lot of weaknesses in terms of boosting a site's marketing effectiveness besides the lack of search friendliness.

I wrote and published a white paper about a year ago on many of these weaknesses. If this actually turns out to be reality only one of the many weaknesses I originally identified will be mitigated. I know some designers swear by Flash, but I believe it has a lot of short comings some inherit in the technology itself and some with the way designers use it to build applications. Maybe over time both will disappear.

Very exciting, it feels like they have been working on this for years. As a knowledgeable professional in both SEO and Flash development I have no idea how this is going to work considering the huge differences from Flash content traditional pages. Hopefully they release some guidelines and we dont have to spend a year shooting in the dark.

It does appear to be great news for designers, but I'm wondering what's going to happen with the SERP's when, overnight, all the Flash sites are now included in the results.

While this is great news, I foresee scores of designers touting the search friendliness of flash without understanding the specifics.

For example; The text and links in a 100% flash site may now be index-able, however it is still only a one page site if the URL never changes.
