Google AdWords on Google Earth
In what is cracking up to be a big week in search engine marketing news (thinking Yahoo’s new search technology, Google Health, MSN adCenter), some European bloggers are noticing a new channel for the serving of local targeted Google AdWords (yes, local is HOT); Google Earth AdWords.
Philipp Lessen points to the Radioactive Yak’s screenshots of Google Earth software serving nice little AdWords ads in their Map balloons:
Now, I’d been flying around for a couple of days and not seen a sponsored link before, so (to me at least) this looks like a new addition.
If so, it makes a lot of sense. The free release of Sketchup will renew interest in Google Earth, and this provides an excellent new source of exposure for Adwords customers who already have location based exposure on Google Maps.

There have been ads on Earth since about two weeks now. To see an example, zoom in the ‘Los Angeles’ area and search for “flowers”. Click on the search results in the left menu bar.
I love this concept its a great way of bringing the local advertiser and the local user together, in a very real world example. Does anyone have any feel for how many clicks these adverts are generating versus standard search.
