Recently Google has tested some colored images in the backgrounds on its AdSense ads at selected websites. Shawn of Digital Point was one of the first to notice these new ads appear on his site.
On sites where the ads blend into the site design this would probably lower click through rate substantially. On sites where the ads are well separated from the page content this new format would probably increase click through rates.
