GMail Down : Try iGoogle During GMail Outage

There is currently a major worldwide GMail blackout as Google is serving a 502 Server Error to users who are trying to access their GMail accounts. What’s someone supposed to do when GMail is down? Turn to Twitter of course (one has to wonder if the Tweeting about GMail will lead to a worldwide Twitter outage next).

According to some Tweets, logging into GMail via iGoogle, the Google personal homepage app, is still working for some.

1. Just go to the iGoogle Widget Directory
2. Select the GMail app which is listed first in the directory
3. Now go back to your iGoogle page and your GMail should be appearing.

Is GMail or iGoogle working for you?

There are two widgets I found. One says that it no longer works, as it uses the “inline” feature which is no longer supported. The other just gives me a blank box and doesn’t say why.

  6. Moss Bliss says:

OK, now it says why — it is affected by the same 504 Server Error. So no Gmail.

Gmail doesn’t seem to be the only service having troubles. It seems Google Analytics is also facing difficulties today. I have logged 6 visits the entire day. A site that averages 90-100. Others seem to be having the same trouble.

I’ve experienced no outage in gmail all day, and I’ve been checking it every hour or two. I’m only about 30 miles from Mountain View, though, so perhaps that’s a reason ;)
