Great insight into the firm. It is good to know that they are breaking away from traditional SEO

Great article! I have heard Rand speak at SMX and SES and always find their information so useful. I'm also an SEOmoz member and love all the tools.

You metion that there are three other major SEO certifications out there. Which ones are they? Thanks.

Its always great to know little bit of personal side of someone who has such high regards from his peers.
But its not all that personal -is it? There is some business element too!
Good luck to Gilian and Mozzers.

Jim - thanks for this. It's always interesting to see what people inside your company say about it to the outside world :)

To answer some of the questions - yes, Gillian is SEOmoz's President, and she and I co-founded the company. My dad, Scott, isn't part of SEOmoz - he's an environmental engineer at Boeing, actually.

Just one more thing - the Scott who works here at SEOmoz (not my Dad) is Scott Willoughby :)

I've gotta disagree with Mike's comments above. While I didn't realise that Gillian was Rand's mother, the article was a great insight into a firm and a bunch of people I regard very highly.

Well done to Search Engine Journal for securing the interview in the first place, and nice to see a focus on the 'business' end of SEO.

SEOmoz doesn't do SEO so the name has to change right? Also I guess I am confused, his parents hold the keys here?
Loren, love the blog but this went far afield IMO.
I mean do we start hearing from other popular SEO and blog operator's parents?
