its legal to possess MP3s, to rip your CDs to your hard drive, and to burn CDs for your personal use.
so the answer is no it isnt :([//quote]

i actually have to point out a now dead and past paradox brought up by the DMCA v1: it is true that you couldnt legally rip to an mp3 file from a cd unless 2 conditions were met 1) the application used to rip the cd was "authorized" (reason for quotation is to point to the fact that they never-EVER described or produced an authorized app to rip a cd for some time (only after DMCA v2, wich didnt have this loophole) by there office, and 2) the applications encoder was an authorized and liscenced MP3 or WMA encode (with DRM!(Digital Rights Management, for those who didnt know)), but noticed they defined the second prerequisite? anyway, its all fun and good brain pickings... the issues a moot point nowadays with the aforementioned fair usage act, and little reverse engineering wonders like LAME and other codecs completely(Ogg:Vorbis, ac3, acc, wav!)

I am going to have to agree with the article I just read. There are countless numbers of free p2p programs
Dont ever pay money for a "membership" to download free music...-->Be sure to have anti-virus anti-spyware protection before using any p2p program

I am a little confused about your news brief above describing scam sites that offer free or 100% legal downloads. However, I see clearly that you advertise several of these so-call scam sites. Interesting! Very hypocritical!

I am 99% ripping cd's to your hdd is also illegal
hense all the copy protect
which also under the milenium act is illegal to bypass copy protection mechanisms (eg CSS)

and burning CD's is also illegal
it is only legal in countries like Canada that placed a levy on CDRs in exchange allow you to download and burn as much as you want
it’s legal to possess MP3s, to rip your CDs to your hard drive, and to burn CDs for your personal use.
so the answer is no it isnt :(
