Best Way to Compare Google, Yahoo and Bing: Blind Search (Poll Included)

A while ago I wrote a post reviewing 3 tools to compare Google and Bing search results. Blind Search slipped in the comments (many thanks, Gidseo) and the time has come for me give it more attention here, at SEJ.

Created by Microsoft employee, Michael Kordahi, Blind Search is a great way to decide what really works better for you: Google, Yahoo or Bing. It offers you to search once to see results from all the three engines but you won’t know which results belong to which engine: you will have to choose blindly.

Perform at least 10 searches to be able to judge with at least some level of certainty – you can also install its search plugin to use the tool for your regular searching:

Blind search

Michael shares the results of 8-week testing here but I found it necessary to also conduct our own SEO experiment as we, SEOs, search differently. So, after 10 attempts what was your most favorite search engine?

I’m sorry, but if you have to change the look of the search engine in order to compare, you’re not doing a job of a “blind test” for what is the better search engine. The fact that each engine’s layout is being /modified/ automatically changes the reasons as to why someone may like another engine over another.

Honestly, this should not be considered a test in my opinion, and does not deserve to be considered any way “best.”

Cool idea. I averaged Google, with positive outliers at Bing.

Actually, Bing results are more accurate and up to date. It appears that Google’s search engine has a bug and it’s re-crawling process takes a very long time (several months) , which means that if the webpage gets modified, the old information is still displayed in google snippets before the next crawl and somoetimes even after the re-crawl. Bing’s crawling and re-crawling process is a lot faster. Hence, results are more accurate.
