I like long-tail keyword strategy. I think the more niche the audience is the more sense it makes to do a long-tail strategy because in a niche no keyword by itself has enough monthly searches to do some "damage", but the group combined can add up to a more substantial number. Also, I like the long-tail strategy when the head keywords have high competition rate and this means that I would have to put in too much of my resources to earn some search engine visibility...

I think what Glenn has demonstrated above is taking the initiative to not just provide a solution, but to make that solution findable. It's an excellent example of the marketing example of "finding a need" and "providing a solution." That said, your first graphic has no measurements on and therefore is slightly misleading.

Thanks David. Yes, the sheer number of keywords has been staggering. It's now up to 1,205 different keywords that have led to the post. It just shows how many people are experiencing problems with syncing their Samsung phones. Again, over 1 million Galaxy phones have been sold this summer. I like your idea of writing about the software release. :)

Glenn, i think its great that Samsung responded outside of the cool case study on longtail is that the solution gets solved. I'm sure a followup post dealing with the software roll out would show you a similar traffic boost.

It is surprising about the sheer number of keywords for such a specific post i know that one of my previous posts drives a lot of traffic but its only around a small set of keywords.

Thanks, and I'm glad this provided an actual case study to support your theory! It was really frustrating browsing dozens of posts and forums trying to find an answer. Once I found the answer, I had to write the tutorial. The wave of traffic has been crazy ever since. Regarding Samsung, I love my Captivate, but they have a big problem on their hands. I hope they launch the new version of Kies soon...

That is great, I often times search for various solutions online and nothing exists and I wonder to myself if someone wrote something really nice it would probably rank very well since I am not the only one with the problem.

On a side note! Samsung Galaxy S owner here and its been a nightmare as well. :)

Thanks Alan. It was amazing to see the wave of Captivate users hit my blog (and only hours after the post was published). BTW, it's now up to 998 keywords and counting. :) Regarding your post, that's awesome. Glad to hear it's still ranking well and driving targeted traffic. It must be a detailed and valuable post!
