Companies jumping into the Social Media space definitely need to have branded content, focused consistent efforts driven from a central content platform.

They also need not expect immediate direct results, keep building over time and success will come.

Of course more traffic from social media isn't the end, you still need conversions into sales for whatever your product / service is.

Your completely right to only target these social media sites if they correspond with your audience/customers.

What interests me is will there ever be a truely mainstream social media site or will more niche verticals just develope?

Maybe Garrentt,

To prove a concept I'm staring with zero inbound links and an average of 1 visitor per day (Google). This first inbound link from searchenginejournal what impact will that give? I did start a "new" angle in SEO, gathering the requirements for the vision for Distributed Search on Local created index. My goal is to get the visitors cooperate in the defining the requirements for SLID, Search Local Index Distributed.

I will keep your updated on the traffic,
MdJ

hehe Thanks JP - I it's tough to get work done when there's so much great stuff to read out there. Glad I could point you to some of the best. Even if I'm not as excited as some of them about Digg ;P

I should note too -for the record- that I've only gotten Dugg once - by accident - when I blogged for Search Engine Lowdown.

Thank goodness I've never let my ignorance stop me from forming and broadcasting my strong opinions ;)
