Blog Ads, MSNBC and the Porn Valley Advertisement
Blog Ads, MSNBC and the Porn Valley Advertisement
As I’m sure many of our readers have noticed, there is currently (as of 10:09 EST 12/12/2005) an advertisement running on the left side of the Search Engine Journal which reads “Porn Valley.” No, we have not sold out to Danni Ashe or traded the ad spot for some free rentals at the local 24 hour video shop. Nope, this ad is actually part of a huge blogvertising campaign by MSNBC via the BlogAds network for a new lineup of MSNBC programs.
MSNTV (MSNBC) is using the BlogAds placement to build up awareness for the new shows they are launching incuding Keith Oberman’s Countdown episode on viral video, Rita Cosby’s Live & Direct (featuing the porn valley special) and Joe Scarborough’s study on Internet Addiction.
Here’s a snippet from the email announcement BlogAds sent out to its blog publishers:
You got an e-mail from us this morning about a blogad purchased by MSNBC to promote its “digital day” the coming Wednesday. (Some teasers about the show in the middle of this page: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3096434/) . This is a nice way to end 2005.
To give you some personal context, this is biggest blogad buy ever — 800 blogs. This is more ads than Blogads.com sold in the entirety of 2003. (The previous record was held by Audi, which ordered ads on 286 blogs last spring.) I’ll leave it to the media mavens among you to figure out the larger ramifications, but for me this is just a darn pleasant way to end a good year.
Great news from BlogAds and its refreshing to see such confidence put into blog advertising by MSNBC. By the way, I’m not making this post to garner more interest to the ad spot, as I’m sure its neon graphic layout on our new white space oriented site design was enough to get your attention. Instead, I’m letting out readers know that this is indeed an MSNBC advertisement for a tasteful cable TV program.
