Having just received my Blekko trading cards, it feels as if another entry about everyone’s favorite, tiny search engine is in order – if not quite obligatory. Luckily, Blekko has been hard at work publicizing themselves and learning from their experience. In Blekko’s recent efforts, “publicizing” and “school of hard knocks education” are one in the same; their recent tour of road shows prompted the fledgling fighter of a search site to create a road show survival guide. Here are a few key points from that guide:
- Book your rooms nine months in advance, or you may end up in the next city over.
- If you’re at SXSW, go see some live music during the off-hours.
- Nap early and often.
- Take your vitamins.
- Stick to one drink.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Stay hydrated.
- Visit every possible BBQ joint in the region.
All this is coming from the (if not before, then certainl now) experienced road warrior crew at Blekko, which included founder Rich Skrenta and a number of other staff members. The team strutted their staff at SMX West, SXSW, SES, and Web 2.0 conferences, with SXSW being the most notable since Blekko was one of the “search party hosts.” There the representatives discussed what Blekko was doing, gave out trading cards, t-shirts, and even a few iPads.
