Ask.com Shopping Switching to Pronto?

Pronto, the IAC owned comparison shopping search service, is now powering the Shopping sections of Excite.com and iWon.com, both IAC (Ask.com’s parent company) properties.

iWon and Excite are not as major Internet properties as Ask.com, but they do receive respectable traffic and serve as excellent testing grounds for new Ask.com and IAC technology (in the same manner AltaVista & AlltheWeb are used by Yahoo).

Ask.com currently uses PriceGrabber to power its Shopping section.

Brian Smith of Comparison Engines adds “…this means that Pronto is moving closer to replacing PriceGrabber on Ask’s Shopping section. Haven’t heard anything from either company to back up this statement, but I have a feeling this will happen well before the holiday shopping season.

Being that the holiday shopping season begins in 6 months, I hope they do make the switch beforehand.
