Good post, Ann. I also wrote about this subject in my 5 C-Factors post at http://www.amnavigator.com/blog/2009/06/09/5-reasons-to-choose-one-affiliate-program-over-the-other/

Two problems that affiliates do face, however, are: (i) not all affiliate program/networks display such data as program's conversion ratio, and (ii) very few disclose such metric as the affiliate program's reversal rate. Both of these have be carefully weighed when choosing a program/product/offer to promote; and then also: take it one step at a time -- don't pour all of your resources into one program, but take it easy, constantly measuring, making conclusions, tweaking, and improving.
