Facebook Hits One Billion Users in a Single Day

For the first time ever Facebook recorded one billion daily active users this past Monday, August 24th.

This milestone was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg on a post to the network, adding that this is “just the beginning of connecting the whole world.”

“A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.

Thank you for being part of our community and for everything you’ve done to help us reach this milestone. I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together.”

This really puts into perspective how just how great a gap there is between Facebook and its competitors when it comes to active user base.

The company continues to attract new users each month and its momentum shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

To put this accomplishment into perspective, consider that there are currently 3.1 billion internet users in the world.

This past Monday, nearly a third of all people on the internet logged into Facebook at some point during the day.

That makes it a tremendous milestone not only for Facebook, but the fact that one site managed to connect that many people in a day is a milestone for the internet in general.

No doubt an accomplishment shared by few other sites, Facebook has good reason to be proud of today’s announcement and will likely strive to hit even greater numbers in the future.
