I think there is no seo firma needed for particular people. People who are designing and promoting little hobby websites, if they do good efforts they will achieve good rankings.

I did some research on this two years ago – wrote up my findings in “Is There Value in SEO Firms?” (just Google that phrase – my page with that title should be the first match).

In summary, I found most SEO firms were charlatans – not all, but most. In spite of giving them full info in email up front, most never even read what I said, and sometimes seemed unable to hear me speaking either – they just went into their pitch, paying no attention at all to where it obviously didn’t fit..

well first if someone calls me asking me that many questions we answer them as best as we can, but as far as revealing clients rankings we don’t reveal we will reveal our own ranking such as were in the top 10 for website design and many other competitive keywords. quite honestly I don’t think a company should have to prove there self so much to a client maybe to a degree, but not going out of there way.

Most generally you can tell if a company is legit or not just by there name and etc or references. For example I had one guy call me up asking me some off the wall questions even after I provided him with references and rankings that we achieved for our self, so I basically just warded him off.

I think a company should do everything for there client of course, but the client should do the same in return such as loyalty to the brand and etc and treat the company with respect I have had some clients that were totally rude and now I pratically interview my clients to make sure there applicable for our services such as pricing and etc and trust.

So This should work both ways :), but a client should always show loyalty to a company just like they would do in return.

Interesting and inspiring article and comments. I would like to add a comment about the ever growing importance of knowing what seo and search engine optimization services are all about. Small business owners need to observe more carefully the quality of service they recieve. The only way it can be done is to digg a little on the basic of seo. It should be on top priority before considering using paid services.

Great advice Eric. It is always good to read up on how the “dodgy dealers” are doing it, not just to educate and reassure my clients but also as a checklist that I do not adopt such methods in my strategies.

I shall now read Lee’s article that I haven’t got to yet.

So many UK SEO companies give it, we will build links to your site, I have asked potential clients before to ask them how they are going to do it, many of the SEO company sales people just get stumped and either start stuttering or just try to avoid the question altogether.
